Abstract:

The aim of this study was to produce Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) and Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) films and to enhance their properties by reinforcing them with nanoclay particles. Thus, nanocomposite films were prepared with blending of CMC and PVA, as a matrix and several filler loadings of nanoclay particles. The various formulations of nanocomposite films obtained with casting method and their different characterizations were studied. The mechanical and water absorption properties of these films are discussed in this article. Results showed that with increasing filler loading, Tensile Stress (TS), elongation at break (E), and Modulus Of Elasticity (MOE) of the CMC/PVA/nanoclay composites raised, decreased, and enhanced, respectively. In addition, water absorption of films decreased asmore filler was incorporated in the composite. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns showed that films containing 3% clay have proper mixing and exhibited the best dispersion in the CMC/PVA matrix.

Preparation and Characterization of Silica/Polyamide-imide Nanocomposite Thin Films

The functional silica/polyamide-imide composite films were prepared via simple ultrasonic blending, after the silica nanoparticles were modified by cationic surfactant-cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The composite films were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and thermomechanical analysis (TMA). CTAB-modified silica nanoparticles were ...

Effect of nanozeolite 13X on thermal and mechanical properties of Polyurethane nanocomposite thin films

Polyurethane/zeolite 13X nanocomposite films were fabricated using solution casting method. The synthesized nanocomposite films were structurally characterized using SEM, TGA and tensile analysis. SEM images showed appropriate distribution of nanocrystalline zeolite particles within polyurethane matrix. Better thermal stability of nanocomposite films in comparison to neat polyurethane was shown...

Barrier and Mechanical Properties of Starch-Clay Nanocomposite Films

Cereal Chem. 85(3):433–439 The poor barrier and mechanical properties of biopolymer-based food packaging can potentially be enhanced by the use of layered silicates (nanoclay) to produce nanocomposites. In this study, starch-clay nanocomposites were synthesized by a melt extrusion method. Natural (MMT) and organically modified (I30E) montmorillonite clays were chosen for the nanocomposite prepa...
